Tariffs and surcharges calculated in the cart, not after the order
An extra charge had to follow the client own rules, show in the order total before payment, and arrive intact on the NetSuite sales order.
Surcharge applied in the cart
Recalculated on every cart changeWhat was broken
The business had to add a tariff or surcharge to orders placed through the SCA site. It is not a product and not a standard price, so the standard pricing and checkout had nowhere to put it, and the amount the customer saw had to match the amount NetSuite recorded.
What runs now
We built the surcharge logic into the cart and checkout themselves, so the charge is calculated from the client business rules and carried through to the sales order.
- Charge calculated from the client own business rules
- Shown in the order summary before the customer pays
- Recalculated when quantities, additions or removals change the cart
- Revalidated at submission so the cart and NetSuite cannot drift apart
- Written through to the NetSuite sales order
One flow, end to end.
The path a cart takes once this is running. The charge is recalculated at every step, so the total the customer sees is the total that posts.
Eligible orders now carry the right surcharge automatically, and the customer sees it before they pay rather than after.
